Is there a test for migraine?

Is there a diagnostic test that can be done to diagnose migraine headaches?

Hi Steve,

No, unfortunately, there is no test for migraine.  It is a diagnosis made by clinicians based on patient history and symptoms.

Migraine headaches are usually preceded by a visual aura, lasts 4 to 72 hours, start on one side of the head and then spread to the entire head, pulsating and throbbing in nature, and moderate to severe in intensity.  It is not an anatomical diagnosis, which can be diagnosed by a scan.
